Posted 23rd Apr 2021

Even for seasoned interviewers it can, sometimes, be tricky to come up with the right questions (let alone answers) at the right time and, sometimes, just a reminder of good questions to pose can be helpful. I hope the latter proves to be the case here and if not, thank you for perusing all the same.

1. Explain to me more about the HR functions that were under your direction and/or control in your current or most recent HR position.

2. What are your favourite components of the overall HR role and why do you enjoy these most?

3. In what did you find yourself investing the most time in your most recent HR post?

4. Describe a difficult HR based situation that you had with your current or previous employer (or manager) and your approach to handling it?

5. Tell me about a particular time when you ‘coached’ someone?

6. What would you detail as being you and your current, or most recent, HR department’s most significant contribution to the business?

7. How do you stay up to date on country-specific labour laws and HR based regulations?

8. What do you think are some of the essential qualities that a successful HR person must possess?

9. Please give me three areas that you feel need the most improvement, based on your understanding of common HR practices?

10. What do you think would be or could be the biggest challenges for you in this HR role?
